Board Spotlight: Tuesday
Name: Tuesday (Frankus) Vander Weide
Title: Community Engagement and Advocacy
How long have you been on the board?
Since June 2020
What do you love most about FAST?
What is not to love? I love sharing my passion for cycling with others that love sharing it too. I love the process of building trails and seeing them come together. I love that during every meeting we talk about how we can make improvements and offer a better overall experience for all that enjoy our trails.
What is your favorite park to ride in Sioux Falls?
That’s tough! Leaders for the sake of improving my technical skills and Tut to ride with friends and teach others new skills.
Where is the coolest place you’ve ever ridden outside of Sioux Falls?
Recently I've been checking off some parks in Minnesota and I have loved them all. Lebanon Hills makes a great day trip for those itching to get out of the city.
What do you want FAST members to know about you?
If you see me on the trail say hello! Teaching people about bikes is my favorite thing. The joy you get from finally tackling an obstacle or riding a line all the way through is second to none. I want everyone to enjoy that moment and I will stop any ride I'm doing to help someone else get there.
If you could only drink one kind of beer for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If it says IPA on it, I am in.
What is your favorite piece of riding equipment?
Helmet! Everyone needs one, even if you think you look dumb no one else does. Second would be proper cycling lights, invest in them if you are riding to/from trails on roads or late at night.
Flats or clipless?
Both!
What is the best tip for someone that wants to start riding a mountain bike?
Get involved! Don’t hesitate to start a conversation with someone else on the trail. We ALL had to start somewhere and we are ALL still learning. Some of my favorite people in the world are those I've met through cycling. Also, find out where you can volunteer! Seeing a trail come together, or a rock garden get built and then going and riding it yourself is such a satisfying feeling.
